FINANCIAL SERVICES AUTHORITY

Summary and Popularity of Site

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) is the regulator of all financial services in the United Kingdom. This site aims to give comparative tables for financial items like mortgages and ISA. It is ranked inside the top 29,000 most visited sites in the world and inside the 1,500 sites in the UK*.

Content

To be honest, the homepage is a little confusing in terms of layout. They have various links to sub sections like FSA Library, FSA Handbook and Gabriel (GAthering Better Regulatory Information ELectronically) but they are all over the place and extremely difficult to pin down. This makes it an arduous process to locate anything that is of interest to you initially. The whole right hand side of the page is blank when the space should have been used to put the jumbled information in better order.

The aim of this site is to ensure that companies in the UK are not breaking the law and you can see in the news section that the FSA banned three mortgage brokers from working in regulated financial services after they were found guilty of fraud. There are also stories about another company getting fined for failing to have adequate money laundering systems and controls. The message given out by the site is clear: If you are engaged in dubious financial practices, the FSA will catch you and punish you severely.

Positives and Summary

This is good news for consumers as well as for ordinary businessmen. Having the FSA on your side is a welcome feeling. If you are involved in regulated financial services, you need to check out the information provided on becoming authorized. There is also consumer information on scams and swindles, warning people about credit card scams as well as identity fraud. The problem with the site really is the initial layout. It provides an excellent financial service for consumers, ensuring that corrupt businesses are taken to task and that you don’t get ripped off. Once you get into the specific links, its layout is far superior and the articles are informative and relevant to today’s financial market. They just need to use the homepage space better and they will probably get even more visitors.
